Sanded wooden floors are beautiful and practical, but many people might worry about them being compatible with dogs, both in general and in the sanding process. Here are some tips for all your dog-related worries!

Maintaining your wooden floor
Consider trimming your dog’s nails to avoid scratching. If scratches happen anyway, do not worry, you can easily access wood floor scratch repair! To minimise damage, you can also place rugs in places where your dog eats and drinks.
In case of urine stains, sanding floorboards can expose the extent of the stain. Once that is done you can clean and bleach the damaged area with hydrogen peroxide. Brush it straight on as many times as needed, while being careful to tape the area off so as not to bleach unaffected zones. To ensure compact colour, try to do this when you are sanding the entire floor, and paint the area with the right colours!
During floor sanding and restoration
You might be worried about toxic fumes affecting your dog’s health. If the sanding is being done using a water base or polyurethane finish, then fumes will not be dangerous. If the common Glitsa is what is being used, then you will have to vacate the house completely, as the fumes will burn eyes and throats of humans and dogs. During this time, you can keep your dog with you if you are staying at a place that allows pets, or you can kennel it outside. You can also keep it in dog daycare during the day, and at home with fans running at night.
