Wooden floors for dog owners

Sanded wooden floors are beautiful and practical, but many people might worry about them being compatible with dogs, both in general and in the sanding process. Here are some tips for all your dog-related worries!

Choosing your floor

Dogs can be messy and cause damage to your floors, which is why you want to make sure they are sturdy. Engineered floors tend to be quite resistant. Solid wood is another good choice, as it is easy to restore wood floor. When thinking about how often you will need wood floor repair and wood floor sanding, and how effective it will be, it is important to consider wood species as well. Among the sturdiest you can find are White Oak, Hickory and Brazilian Cherry.

Maintaining your wooden floor

Consider trimming your dog's nails to avoid scratching. If scratches happen anyway, do not worry, you can easily access wood floor scratch repair! To minimise damage, you can also place rugs in places where your dog eats and drinks.

In case of urine stains, sanding floorboards can expose the extent of the stain. Once that is done you can clean and bleach the damaged area with hydrogen peroxide. Brush it straight on as many times as needed, while being careful to tape the area off so as not to bleach unaffected zones. To ensure compact colour, try to do this when you are sanding the entire floor, and paint the area with the right colours!
